Dawson set for visit

Ridgeway High School (Memphis, Tenn.) athlete Sheldon Dawson is a pretty smart guy.

Early in the process, the hometown Memphis Tigers came calling, and Dawson jumped at the offer and committed to then Coach Larry Porter.

Dawson had a strong desire to play running back, and Memphis was offering chance to not only play the position, but an opportunity come in and play early.

Since Dawson's commitment, Porter was fired after a 2-10 season in 2011, but Dawson didn't make any brash decisions.

"I'm still committed to Memphis and taking my time," he said. "I'm firm unless something better comes a long."

Dawson is hearing from the likes of Cincinnati, Arkansas, Ole Miss, Tennessee, and Georgia right now, and many believe that some of those schools have a decent chance at swaying the three star athlete from Memphis.

Dawson has made it known to every school that he prefers to play running back, but he also understands that his future may be at defensive back.

"I played both running back and cornerback this year, and I know I am pretty good at both," he said. "I prefer to play running back because I've been doing it for a long time, but I know that schools want me to play corner and believe I can be good there. I have a lot to learn as a defensive back, but I could do it."

One school that stands out for Dawson is the University of Georgia, and the two-way start has every intention of seeing the Bulldogs very soon.

"We are setting up an official visit for UGA this weekend," he said. "It isn't set in stone yet, but we are planning on it. They are recruiting me at defensive back and I am trying to get down there."

When asked if he thought he would get an offer while visiting UGA, Dawson had an interesting answer.

"I believe I have one," he said. "If I don't have one, them I wouldn't visit, but I think I have one. Coaches are coming here(Wednesday), and I'll have to check with them then."
