Jamal Marcus focused on five (with video)

Senior defensive end/linebacker Jamal Marcus and his Durham (N.C.) Hillside teammates have been on a mission since dropping their season opener to New Bern, 27-19. Their mission was accomplished when they dropped rival Durham (N.C.) Jordan, 36-7 last Friday for their sixth win in a row.

"This was a statement game," he said. "We want to let everyone in the state know that we're still here. [We're looking for] no more losses and we're ready to compete for another state championship."

Although the intimidating 6-foot-2, 220-pounder said he is focused on his high school season and leading Hillside to a second-straight state crown this fall, he is beginning to check out colleges. Marcus has been to two North Carolina games so far - against Rutgers in Chapel Hill and against East Carolina in Greenville - and planned to make it to the Tar Heel's contest last weekend with Louisville.

There were reports that Marcus could be visiting NC State soon and while he didn't confirm those rumblings, he did admit that he is still taking a look at the Wolfpack, along with a handful of other programs. The star defender has not set up any officials yet, but has some destinations in mind.

"I'm taking this time right now to try to take some official visits to some schools - some SEC school and some ACC schools," he said. "You've got UNC in the picture. Auburn is in the picture. ECU is back in the picture. Georgia Tech is back in the picture. And NC State. So a lot of things have opened up. Those five are the ones I'm really looking towards visiting."

The three-star prospect is ranked by Rivals.com as the No. 13 player in the state and the No. 32 weakside defensive end in the land. Marcus said he has no timeline in mind for when he'll make a decision.
