Dawgs on Kirby's radar

The recruitment of Stephenson linebacker and Maimi commit Raphael Kirby has been a top priority for Georgia since the Hurricane program went under the media spotlight.

Georgia's coaching staff's hard work seems to be paying off as Athens played host to the rivals 250 member for an unofficial visit to the Coastal Carolina game this weekend.

Though it wasn't the highest profile game for the Dawgs, Kirby said he was happy to have made the trip.

"On game day in Georgia it's just a whole different atmosphere than you'd expect. Everybody is just, it's so vibrant, and the coaching staff there is just tremendous and they have a good shot at doing big things," Kirby said. "My mom had a good time. She loves football, so we both just had a great time."

Kirby said he was able to make it to the Classic City because he had the weekend off and it is close enough that he can check it out.

Beyond checking out the game, Kirby said this trip was a bit different than others in the past in that he was able to sit down and talk with the staff at length about how they see him fitting into the defense.

"I had a good time. I got to speak with all the coaches, look around a bit. I've been there multiple times, but this time I got to sit in and talk with, mostly all the defensive coaches. I had a great time," Kirby said. "I talked to coach (Rodney) Garner, Coach O (Kirk Olivadotti), Coach (Todd) Grantham and I talked to Coach (Mark) Richt. They just want me down there and they also said I'd fit into the system well and they need more linebackers."

While Kirby waits to hear about the future of the Miami program, he said he is going to start looking at other prospects sooner than later.

"I most definitely am booking my officials, I just don't know which schools just yet. Georgia may be one of them. Miami is definitely one," Kirby said. "And like it said, the rest of them, I'm not really sure but I'm going to take them. I'm going to try to start taking my officials next month because I'm graduating early so time isn't abundant for me."
