Runyan Happy About UT Commitment

Craig Runyan is a 6-4, 230 pound tight end from Marysville (OH) High School. He committed to the University of Toledo on July 1st, over offers from Bowling Green, Kent State, Miami University, and Ohio University. conducted a phone interview with Runyan Saturday evening, after he returned home from watching the Toledo Rockets take on the Ohio State Buckeyes. "The atmosphere was awesome," Runyan said of the Toledo/Ohio State game. "I thought we had them at the end. We played really good and it was exciting."

Runyan is solidly committed to Toledo, and considers himself part of the Rocket family already. But what was it about Toledo that made Craig feel this way?

"The coaching staff is amazing," said Runyan. He added, "Coach Golesh and I bonded right away. Coach Beckman is a great head coach and he's turned the program around, both academically and athletically. His offensive schemes are amazing. I can't wait to play for him." Runyan also said that he plans to major in Criminal Justice in college, and that weighed heavily on his decision. "It was very important that the school I chose had a Criminal Justice program. If they didn't have one they were out of the picture right away."

There is one more reason that Runyan chose Toledo, and he got a good glimpse of that at Toledo's game against Ohio State saturday. "I love their offense, the way they pass the ball around."

So far this season, Runyan and his teammates at Marysville High School are 2-1. He has 6 catches, with two of them going for touchdowns. He also plays defensive end on 3rd down and long plays, but he has been recruited by Toledo to play tight end. Throughout the season, Runyan plans to work on his blocking and footwork to become a better overall player as he works to improve his game for college.
