Santini says that Black Knights are still in the hunt
Chris Santini is the real deal and as he made his rounds at various camps, he proved not only to others, but to himself that he can compete against the best.
The 6-foot-1, 213 pound prospect out of San Jose (Calif.) Leland High School, also has taken some time to distinguish which schools remain on his "Interest List".
One of the programs that has caught the hard hitting linebacker/safety's attention are the Black Knights of Army.
"Oh yeah, I'm very interested in ARmy," shares the 3-star prospect. "The last time I heard from Coach Shields
it's been about two months since I spoke to him."
"I know the benefits that come from graduating from West Point and how high level the academics are."
Santini was quick to point out that overall his recruiting has been going well, but has slowed down the past couple of months. And for the California prospect, that's not a serious concern, because his senior kicks off August 22nd, which means that team practices and the season are around the corner.
Like many recruits, Santini spent a good portion of his summer attending combines and camps, with an opportunity to showcase his talents.
"Off the top of my head, I think I did four camps and they were pretty high level competition of camps," he adds. "It definitely help me to open my eyes to see how good other people are that are out there."
Most recently, Santini participated in the 7-on-7 Grid Iron Kings. "I left on the 25th to participate and returned the same day. I did really well at the Nike camp at Stanford which was an invite camp and I did well that I was invited to the Grid Iron Kings event."
The 3.2 GPA student-athlete says that part of his package that has attracted college recruiters happens to be his style of play. "I'm explosive and sure tackler and quick to the ball," declares Santini, who is being recruited more for his potential as a linebacker versus safety.
"All but one school is looking at me as an OLB except Oregon State and I think they are changing that to outside linebacker," he shares.
Santini has indicated that he has had the opportunity to see many of those schools up close and personal.
"I have visited unofficially Bosie, Oregon State, San Jose State
I think there are seven school that I have visited that have offered me," shares Santini.
With all of his unofficial visits being West Coast based, what are the chances of Santini making the trip North to visit Army?
"There's a definite possibility of me visiting Army," he confirms. "I want to go there to see what it's like. I have heard that West Point is very difficult (academically) and that the campus is really nice."
The 2011 Season
"I'm done with all my camps
the last one was yesterday. I have been woking out some and as a team, we are looking pretty good," he shares.
"We have all starters except four seniors and that's it. Last year we were 8-4 so we may it to the semi final to our league championship."
