Ducks looking at Stockton lineman

Oregon's coaches are scouring the nation in search of the next great Duck linemen and there's no better proof than their recent visit to see Stockton two-way star Charles Howard. A 6' 5", 295lb. offensive guard and defensive tackle, Howard says Coach Jerry Azzinaro stopped by to see him awhile back and he's since traded emails.

"Oregon's one of the school's I'm considering," said the Lincoln High star. The Ducks definitely need linemen on both sides of the ball in this recruiting cycle. Partially because of the normal loss of departing seniors, but also this year because of the loss of players like Nick Rowland and Tonio Celotto over the past couple years.

Where Oregon sees Howard might be a surprise to some. "Defensive line," said Howard, "Coach Azzinaro told me I'd be an interior lineman on the defensive side of the ball. Coach said they need some guys in the interior to play their defense."

The well-spoken Howard certainly has the size but to date he's still without an Oregon offer. He did say he's planning on taking a trip up to Oregon though. "I don't have a time period as to when I'm gonna go but they've invited me and it should be soon. Whenever my dad can get it organized we'll go. They send me pictures of the campus and facilities and they're all great. I'm interested in studying Business Administration and that program is also really good. On top of that (and he laughed) they're a great football team."
