Washington reflects on verbal

Last Thursday Winter Park (Fla.) outside linebacker James Washington gave a verbal commitment to the Syracuse Orange. The three star prospect talked about his commitment on that day and CuseConfidential.com caught up with him to find out more about his decision.

What exactly was the reaction when Washington called Doug Marrone to tell him the news?

"They were pretty happy when I called and told them that I was committing to them. He thinks I can really help up there and bring and aggressive style to go with the other recruits."

Washington, 6-foot-3, 220 pounds also talked about what exactly led to his commitment.

"It was really their defensive line coach and I had a chance to talk with some people about their campus. I also did a lot of research on the program, I think it is the best opportunity for me," Washington said. "When I was doing my research of the schools and checking all of my options that was the best place for me. I would get a chance to play early and they have great academics to go along with everything."

As a future linebacker for the Orange Washington feels he will be brining a couple items with him that could help him compete early.

"When I get to college I think I could help out with my pass rush and my ability to drop back in coverage."

Now that Washington's recruitment is over he will be turning his focus on helping his new school land talent. That talent he hops will be from his own school.

"I am going to help recruit now. I want some of my teammates to come up there with me. I don't think any of them have offers right now, but I know there are a few going to the camp up there."

With football season getting underway in just a bout a month the new Orange verbal wants to see his new team keep up a winning tradition.

"I just hope that they can get to a big bowl game. I want to see them carry on the tradition."
