Steve Donatell staying busy with camps

Three-star quarterback Steve Donatell was in Raleigh for a one-day camp recently and came away impressed with what NC State has to offer.

"[It was] definitely some of the best facilities I've seen," The 6-foot-5, 195-pounder reported. "The stadium was real nice, we got to run in that. The weight room is really big, the locker rooms and everything are real nice. There's red everywhere, that's a good thing.

"We poked around [campus] a little bit. It's a really nice campus with big, nice looking buildings. It looked pretty well-kept and everything."'

Donatell, who plays at Highlands Ranch (Colo.) High, also relished in the opportunity to show off his skills for the Pack coaches and reiterate why Rivals.com regards him as the No. 18 dual-threat quarterback in the country.

"It wasn't me best performance, I did OK," he said. "There were a couple of throws I wish I could have back but, overall, I thought I did pretty good.

"They said they still have two more camps with quarterbacks coming back so I need to call them [after NC State's camps end] to see where I stand. They told everyone that."

Donatell's father, Ed, is now the San Francisco 49ers' secondary coach but has moved around extensively during his coaching career so distance from home will not play a factor in his recruitment. Donatell also has an older brother, Tom, who plays defensive back at Iowa.

When Donatell spoke with The Wolfpacker, he was at a team camp at Colorado State with his prep squad. He mentioned camp plans to stop at Colorado, Louisville and Syracuse. After that, he may start to narrow his list but it hasn't happened yet.

"I don't have a top list right now," he admitted. "I'm going to keep my mind open to everything."

Donatell has an offer from Nebraska currently but is hoping to show what kind of quarterback he is at these one-day camps and earn more tenders.

"I know I'm not the fastest guy but I can run a little bit," he said. "When the pass isn't there I feel I can get away and make some plays with my feet."
