Indiana TE could earn Spartan offer

One of the players that the Michigan State is taking a close look at is Josiah Price of Eastern High School in Greentown, Indiana. The 6-foot-5, 240-pound prospect has a solid list of offers and was visited by the Spartans during the May evaluation period. Find out the details.

Last weekend at the NIKE Camp held in Columbus, Ohio, SpartanMag.com noticed a big tight end that consistently looked impressive in drills and one-on-ones. The player turned out to be Price, who is seeing his recruiting stock rise this spring.

Coming into the NIKE Camp Price already had multiple offers on the table. SpartanMag.com asked him which teams have already extended him a scholarship, and what teams that have not offered are showing him a lot of interest.

"I have 8 offers now," Price said. " Bowling Green, Toledo, Miami of Ohio, Ball State, Western Michigan, Central Michigan, Northern Illinois and Arkansas State. I am getting a lot of interest from Notre Dame, Purdue, Indiana, Cincinnati and Michigan State. Lots of other schools send me stuff, but those are the ones who I have been talking with."

At 6-foot-5, 240-pounds Price has the size to play either tight end or defensive end at the next level. Michigan State uses an extensive amount of two tight end sets and according to Price that is the position they are evaluating him for.

We asked him about the Spartans?

"Coach Warner has stopped by my high school and they seem like they are very interested, but I have not been up there yet. I plan to most likely come to camp there this summer."

Greentown, Indiana is not a normal stop on the recruiting trail. Situated about 50 miles north of Indianapolis, the town of around 2500-poeople does not have Division 1 football prospects every year like powerhouse programs Warren Central, Carmel or Ben Davis. The fact that numerous college coaches are making the trip to Eastern High School, is a strong indication of just how serious they are about recruiting Price.

As of right now Price stated that he is not in a hurry to make his college choice. Part of that is due to the fact that there is a good chance that the longer his recruitment plays out, the more scholarships he could receive. College camps will certainly determine a lot as far as scholarship offers go. SpartanMag.com asked Price about eventually making a decision.

"I am thinking it will be after my senior year," he said. "I want to look for the people that are there, the players I will play with and the coaches. I also am going to look at the education and the program's history. I am also going to consider my coach's and family's input on the schools."

SpartanMag.com will continue to follow Price's recruitment. We will also be sure to look out for him at the Spartans 1-Day Elite Camp later this summer. When it comes to tight end recruiting, Michigan State doesn't always follow the crowd. The Spartans are looking for tough, physical players not fineness pass catchers. That certainly cannot hurt Price's chances of earning a Michigan State offer.

Matt's Take:

One thing we have found out about Mark Dantonio, is that he likes big-bodied athletes. Price fits that mold. The Spartans already have a commitment from Evan Jones of Ohio, but much like Price, he has multi-position ability. It would not be a surprise if when Price attends camp, the staff has him workout at multiple positions the way Dan France did when he attended back in 2008.
