Four-star athlete hears from Ole Miss

Like several schools recruiting DeAndre Jasper, Ole Miss is selling the prospect of early playing time.

Unlike many others pursuing the four-star standout from Miami (Jackson), Fla., the Rebels are telling Jasper they might want him to make a change.

"(Ole Miss recruiting coordinator/safeties) Coach (Chris) Vaughn was talking to me about playing on the defensive side," Jasper said. "He said he liked me catching balls, but I think he wants he to play defense at college. He told me I have the quickness and everything I need to be a good (defensive back)."

Jasper, a 5-foot-11, 180-pounder, caught 37 passes for 634 yards and 10 touchdowns as a junior, said he's willing to play "wherever they want me to play."

In addition to Ole Miss, Jasper has picked up scholarship offers from Auburn, Florida State, Rutgers, South Florida, Central Florida and Virginia.

"It's been kind of what I expected," Jasper said of the recruiting process. "I watched my teammate (Auburn signee Robensen Therezie) go through it, so I knew what to expect."

Jasper said he's far from a decision at this point, adding that all of the schools that have offered so far "are all about the same."

As for Ole Miss, Jasper admitted he doesn't know that much about the Rebels.

"I don't know anything," Jasper said. "Coach Vaughn said they started a lot of freshmen and a lot of guys from Miami. I really like (former Ole Miss star/Pittsburgh Steelers standout) Mike Wallace."
