Gordon picks up first SEC offer

It was a call Micheal Gordon hoped he would receive.

It wasn't one he expected.

However, when Gordon picked up his first Southeastern Conference scholarship offer, the running back from Camden (Velma Jackson), Miss., could hardly contain his excitement.

"It was good," Gordon said, referring to the scholarship offer extended to him by Ole Miss recently. "I was happy. I was real happy. I didn't think they were offering me."

Gordon, a 5-foot-10, 185-pounder, now wants to give the Rebels a long look. He'll take in a junior day next month and then camp at Ole Miss this summer.

"I know they need running backs real bad," Gordon said. "They said they need somebody to put in the family and they think I'm that guy."

Gordon, who rushed for more than 1,000 yards as a junior, said he's a back who is "always thinking first down. Once I get that, I'm thinking touchdown. I'm that guy."

Gordon said he's also picked up scholarship offers from Arkansas State and Memphis. Mississippi State and Southern Mississippi have shown serious interest. Gordon said Ole Miss leads for his signature, but he's in no hurry to make a decision.

"I'm going to wait," Gordon said. "I'm not close. I kind of have in the back of my mind what I'm going to do, but I'm going to let it play out. …I'm trying to find the place that feels like home, where I'm treated like family."

Gordon claims a 3.1 grade-point average and a 16 on the ACT.
