Midland DE hoping for offer
Midland (Texas) defensive end Dutton Watson made the short trip to Lubbock last weekend to attend Tech's junior day. As one of only three defensive players in attendance, Watson was able to take advantage of some additional one-on-one time with the coaches.
"Man I liked it a lot. I got there on Saturday and got to watch a practice. We just relaxed for a while after that and then met up again that night. That's when they kind of gave us a tour around their football training facility, which was really sweet. We got to look at all of their gear that they have from Under Armour, too. It was awesome to see that stuff," Watson said. "We ate some dinner after that and then they took us back into the film room and they split us up. There was around twenty guys there, but only three defensive guys so we got to spend a little extra time with Coach Chad Glasgow and the defensive coaches. I liked all of them a lot."
It was the first time Watson had been around Tech's new defensive coordinator, and the 2012 prospect enjoyed Coach Glasgow's fiery approach.
"I especially enjoyed getting to know Coach Glasgow. We saw him in practice, and man he is a screamer. He is very intense," he said. "When you first talk to him you wouldn't expect it, but he flips the switch when he gets on the practice field. I don't mind that type of approach. I like winning more than anything else, so I'm cool with whatever it takes to make that happen."
Watson is being recruited by assistant coach Sonny Cumbie. Aside from Tech, the 6-foot-3, 240-pounder said that he's been hearing from TCU, Nebraska, and Texas A&M the most. The Red Raiders' junior day is the only he's attended so far, and he doesn't have any other trips scheduled right now. Watson indicated that an offer from Tech might bring his recruitment to an early close.
"I've always liked Tech. They're the school I followed growing up and if they offered me I'd probably take it," he said. "It will probably be a bit before I get to that point with them since I haven't taken my SAT or ACT yet. I'm getting those taken care of in March and April, though. So I'm hoping an offer will come soon after that."
