USC piques Richardson's interest
Detroit (Mich.) cornerback Terry Richardson had heard enough from his friend, defensive end Nick Perry, to be excited about USC.
Getting an actual offer from the school only added to his enthusiasm.
Richardson became one of the most recent recipients of a USC offer late last week.
"I got the offer on Friday," Richardson said. "Willie Mack Garza called my coach Thursday to get in contact with me, but I was in class. I talked to Ed Orgeron the next day and he told me I had an offer. After he told me that, I talked to Lane Kiffin and Monte Kiffin and the whole staff, which was cool."
Richardson already holds 11 offers and expects more soon. But the offer from USC was special.
"I've liked USC for a long time," Richardson said. "That offer stood out a lot. I can't wait to look into them some more."
The friendship between Richardson and Perry dates back to their days playing youth football together. The two still stay in constant contact.
"I talk to him about USC every day," Richardson said. "That's how I got the coaches' numbers. He put in a good word for me with the coaches. He told me it's a once in a lifetime experience to be out there."
Though Richardson is enjoying the early stages of the recruiting process, he is still waiting to get a better sense of each school and its coaching staff before formulating a list of favorites.
"Nobody really stands out right now, but I haven't talked to schools a lot," Richardson said. "Things should pick up over the summer, and by then I hope to have a top five or a top 10."
Richardson said he was not put off by the idea of following in Perry's footsteps and attending college far from home.
"Location is going to be nowhere near an issue," Richardson said. "I'm just going to go whatever is the best fit for me. I want to be at a school with a family atmosphere that has a lot of tradition."
Richardson hopes to make his college decision at the Under Armour All-American Game, which he has already been selected to play in.
"I can't wait to play in that game," Richardson said. "I have a lot of friends who played in that game. Devin Gardner and Doran Grant told me all about it. I can't wait to check it out."
