Wilson 'impressed' with Tech

Aledo (Texas) offensive tackle Michael Wilson was in Lubbock last weekend for Texas Tech's first junior day of 2011. As the only offensive lineman in attendance, Wilson had a chance to spend a lot of time getting to know offensive line coach Matt Moore.

"It went great, actually. I didn't really know what to expect, but I ended up really enjoying it. There were probably ten guys there and I was the only offensive lineman," Wilson said. "Luckily enough, that allowed me to visit with Coach Moore one-on-one quite a bit. We went into his office and talked for probably an hour and a half. It was great and I enjoyed getting to know him."

Wilson was early to arrive for the event, which afforded him a little extra time to get to know some of the other offensive coaches, as well as the head coach himself.

"My dad and I got there a little early, so we got a chance to also talk with Coach Neal Brown and Coach Sonny Cumbie," he said. "Then we got to go into Coach Tommy Tuberville's office and got to talk with him for probably an hour. It was really cool. I hadn't ever really talked to Coach Tuberville before and I thought that was really awesome. I mean, the fact that I got to sit in his office for a good while just talking about anything and everything was really a privilege. I thought that was pretty amazing, and I could only leave impressed."

Aside from Tech, Wilson lists Oklahoma State, Oklahoma, Baylor, and Texas A&M as the programs he's hearing from the most. While he's attended three junior days so far, the 6-foot-6, 265-pounder is undecided on where he might travel next.

"I actually don't know what my schedule is going to be for the rest of the spring. We've gotten five invites and we've gone to Tech, A&M, and Baylor. I've also gotten invites to Kansas State and Kansas, but I'm not sure if I'll be able to make it up there yet."

It's also unclear when Wilson is hoping to make a decision, but initial indications are that Tech has a good chance to be in that final conversation.

"I really have no idea when I'll make a decision. I'm kind of torn right now because I'm thinking that I should get it out of the way quicker so I can stop worrying about it and just focus on my senior season. At the same time, I don't want to make a quick decision because I don't want to burn any bridges or rush into anything," Wilson said. "I'd like to think I have a pretty good relationship with Tech. It's not a new relationship, I've been talking with them for a while now. I call Coach Cumbie probably once every two weeks, and I really enjoyed getting to know Coach Tuberville and Coach Moore a lot better. I don't know where it will go, but I like them a lot right now."

Wilson currently holds offers from Kansas and Texas Tech. He's been shown interest by Iowa State, Kansas State, North Texas, Oklahoma, Texas, and Texas A&M.
