Mississippi State is hoping to bounce back from an embarrassing 22-point loss at Georgia this past weekend hosting No. 19 Vanderbilt at Humphrey Coliseum tonight at 6 p.m.
The Bulldogs are in desperate need of an RPI boost and a win over the Commodores, which are ranked 18th in that category, would be a sure step in the right direction.
MSU is 2-2 in conference play and 10-8 overall on the year and has a dismal RPI of 176 coming into tonight's contest. Vandy will be the Bulldogs first ranked opponent of the season.
State has had success of late against the Commodores winning eight of the last 12 in the series. But Vanderbilt does hold the overall edge at 72-44 but has not won in Starkville since 1993.
The two teams squared off twice last year and ended up splitting. Vandy claimed a 75-72 win at home during the regular season while the Bulldogs took a 62-52 victory in the SEC Tournament which was also in Nashville.
