NASHVILLE, Tenn. - Mississippi State's early second-half run helped the Bulldogs recover from a double-digit deficit, and State hung on as a John Jenkins jumper hit the rim at the overtime buzzer, as Vanderbilt was upset by a 78-77 score on Saturday evening.
Vanderbilt led MSU 39-28 at the break, thanks to 13 from Jenkins and eight points and eight boards from Ezeli. The Commodores held MSU to 29 percent first-half shooting.
But State overwhelmed VU at the start of the second half almost before the Commodores realized what had happened, scoring 20 of the half's first 22 points
MSU eventually led by 10, but late 3-pointers by Jenkins and Lance Goulbourne forced overtime.
State's Dee Bost broke open for the game-winning lay-up with 51.8 seconds left, but the Dores missed two potential game-winning shots in the last 3.4 seconds.
Bost scored a game-high 24 points, while Jenkins led VU with 21.
The Commodores lost their sixth-straight overtime game, and fourth contest at home this season, falling to 14-5 and 4-1 in the Southeastern Conference.
