Hicks a big attraction in east Texas
Whitehouse, TX defensive back Stephen Hicks is regarded as one of the best athletes not only in east Texas, he is also rated no. 87 in the Rivals Texas Top 100. With offers from around the country including Colorado, Missouri, Tennessee, Nebraska, Purdue, Oklahoma State, and SMU to name a few, Hicks certainly has options.
Others such as Florida, Arkansas, TCU, and OU are also showing the 5-10, 175 pound hard-hitting safety interest. At the moment Hicks isn't naming a leader and says all have a chance at his services.
"I'm still open," he said. "I'm looking at the whole football environment. The number one thing on my list is the school's academics, how good they are. And for the football side I'm looking at the football environment, the coaching staff, and the football program overall."
One school Hicks has been to is TCU, who just happens to have one of his ex-teammates from a year ago on the roster. Hicks says the coaches aren't the only ones building up the program.
"I think it was pretty nice," Hicks said about his visit to TCU. "It was a visit really for just football stuff. I wouldn't call it a real visit, I just got to be around football activities, I didn't see the campus like you normally would on a visit. You could say it was just a camp. Luke Shivers goes there, he's always talking to me a lot about them and always says it's a great place to play. I have an interest in them, but I have an interest in all the schools looking at me."
Whitehouse had an extraordinary year in '06 going 10-4 and making a deep run in the class 4A playoffs. Hicks is hoping his class can make it even further in '07.
"I want to go further than last year, I would like to make it to the state finals. That's the main goal we made as seniors in my class, we want to go further and go to state."
Hicks was named 1st team all-district and all East-Texas in '06.
