Ford hoping for Ole Miss offer after visit
Johnathan Ford isn't sure of everything.
For example, he's not completely sure whether his first name has one or two Hs in it. Ford's mother, it turns out, prefers just the one H at the end of her son's first name.
Ford, however, prefers two, and for now at least, the running back from New Hope, Ala., is getting his way.
One thing the 5-foot-11, 190-pounder is sure of, however, is he's getting an offer from Ole Miss soon. He's not sure when exactly, but he's absolutely positive he'll be happy when it comes.
"I liked it a lot," Ford said of Ole Miss Monday night, some 48 hours after spending Junior Day on the Oxford campus. "I liked the whole campus. I loved the place for real. I felt like I was at home.
"(Ole Miss running backs) Coach (Derrick) Nix told me he's going to give me an offer. He said he really wanted me. He said I fit the offense. He said I'll know something Tuesday or Wednesday. He said he loved my tape. I'm hoping to hear something."
Ford already has an offer from Mississippi State, but he doesn't know as much about the Bulldogs.
"I just went to a practice in Starkville," Ford said. "I didn't get a chance to see what all they had to offer."
Ford is also drawing interest from Clemson, Kentucky, Louisville and Southern Miss, among others. He said he's in no hurry to make a decision and won't commit anywhere anytime soon. However, an offer from Ole Miss "would mean a lot. They've got a good SEC program. I like the direction they're going in. That would help boost my confidence.
"The way Derrick Nix's philosophy is, I really fit in. I was watching film on the new style of offense they're in, I think with my speed and my style of running, I'd be a good fit."
Ford, who rushed 155 times for 1,526 yards and 23 touchdowns while catching 18 passes for 247 yards as a junior, said his strength as a running back is a combination of speed and power.
"I'm going to truck you, but I have the speed," Ford said. "I'm not scared to take a hit from anybody. I'm going to make sure I get my hit on you, but I have breakaway speed and all that."
