Awrabi Commits to Wyoming
University of Wyoming football picked up a three star defensive end recruit from Clovis, California in Sam Awrabi who visited Laramie over the weekend.
Awrabi is promising prospect receiving interest and offers from a number colleges after performing well in summer camps.
The 6-foot-3 and 240 pound prospect had looks from UCLA, USC, Arizona State, Boise State, Hawaii, and Illinois to name a few before his focus has turned to Northern Arizona and his two visits to Wyoming and San Jose before his verbal to the Pokes.
He originally was offered by Washington State before the coaching change hit the Cougar program.
"I took the visit and I loved it," Awrabi said. "Coaches and players have something going there. It's a place where I can contribute and be a part of something that is moving in a good direction. I'm looking forward to get going."
Awrabi was defined as a potential diamond in the rough after good performances in the Badger Sport 7-on-7 in Las Vegas, the Stanford NIKE Camp and a few other camps during the summer where he showed good pass rushing skills and solid against the run.
The East Clovis product has shown a well-built frame and good hustle going after the ball, regardless of where he was on the field. He could also be looked at as a linebacker in a 3-4 defense though will be listed as a defensive end recruit by Wyoming.
"I've been said to have good technique and strength, and I feel comfortable as a pass rusher," said Awrabi. "I continue to develop my strength and quickness to prepare me for the college level of football."
Awrabi is rated high nationally as the 39th ranked defensive end and one of the top 70 college prospects in the state of California. He is the 18th player to commit or sign to Dave Christensen's 2012 class.
The commitments of Awrabi, Uso Olive, Justin Bernthaler, Sam Hardy, and Chase Appleby looks to give Wyoming the best group of defensive line recruits in Christensen's tenure, while helping to solidify the future at the position.
Wyoming will have one more weekend of prospect visits before national signing day on February 1st.
