Rebels take offensive lineman from Kentucky
Darone Bailey didn't hesitate when he got the call.
Barney Farrar had always told Bailey if he ever got a chance to recruit him, he would.
When Farrar landed on Hugh Freeze's new staff at Ole Miss, that opportunity came.
"He did what he said," Bailey said.
Bailey, a 6-foot-6, 315-pound offensive guard/center from Coahoma County (Miss.) Community College, took an official visit to Ole Miss last weekend. Bailey, who committed to Kentucky in September, told RebelGrove.com Monday night he will sign with Ole Miss on Wednesday or Thursday and enroll in Oxford in early January. He'll have three years to play two seasons.
"It was great," Bailey said of his weekend in Oxford. "It was real impressive. The new staff has come in and created a new atmosphere over there.
"Coach Freeze is a great guy. You can tell he wants to win. I feel real comfortable with him. He's an outstanding guy."
Bailey, a Cleveland, Miss., native, suffered a knee injury in September. Oxford-based surgeon Dr. Ed Field performed the operation to repair the damage. Bailey said he should be ready to play by the end of the summer.
"I'm real excited," Bailey said. "I feel comfortable. I feel real good about going to play for Ole Miss."
