Buda Hays center could be close
The Houston Cougars have had plenty of success landing some of the top offensive linemen on their wish list and that success could possibly grow. One position they may be seeking to add another commitment is at center and Buda (Texas) Hays center, Boone Feldt could be just the man to fill that spot.
CougarsDen caught up with Feldt to get an update on what's been going on in the recruiting process and where the Cougars fall on his short list.
"This summer I didn't get to go to as many camps as I wanted to," said the 6-foot-3, 276-pound center. "I went to the Baylor camp and North Texas. So far I have offers from Houston, Louisiana Tech and Texas State right now."
Feldt hopes to visit Houston in the near future.
"I talked to coach (Kliff) Kingsbury a few weeks ago and they seem excited," the three-star offensive lineman said. "I'm going to visit Houston sometime by the end of this month; they said they wanted me as their next starting center."
Feldt has a short list of favorites but Houston is head of the class at the moment.
"Out of the offers that I've received Houston is number one right now," said the Rivals three star. "There are a few other schools that interest me, but right now Houston is number one."
The recruiting process isn't something Feldt is unfamiliar with, having watched his older brother go through it all before.
"I'm kind of expecting everything with the recruiting process," he said. "My older brother went through the recruiting process and he was big recruit, he actually committed to Arkansas during his sophomore year, he went through some crazy times but eventually transferred to North Texas."
With his older brother at North Texas, the Mean Green are definitely on Feldt's radar.
"I like North Texas," he said. "Pilot Point (20 miles from Denton) is my old home town, and I lived there for five years in North Texas. "I'm really close to getting an offer from North Texas, my Brother is really happy there and he's enjoying his time there, definitely sparked a little interest in North Texas once he transferred there."
Feldt's older brother Cam Feldt will redshirt during the 2011 season and will have three years left to play starting in 2012, which means younger Boone Feldt could potentially have three years with his brother at the next level. If North Texas offers, it may be an offer hard to pass on.
"It may be at the beginning," Feldt said when asked if it might be hard to turn down playing with his older brother. "But I'm really excited for the Houston visit, I haven't been on campus yet and I'm looking forward to that and getting to know the coaches a little more."
"North Texas having my brother is a nice addition, but it won't be my deciding factor", he added. "If North Texas offered, I'd be excited but I'm really high on Houston too. "I think Houston has a great coaching staff, they're all energetic, they're excited about the program and it seems like it's headed in the right direction, which I really like."
