Fullback Fatu says two schools stand out
Klein, Texas, three-star fullback E.J. Fatu has had a quiet summer. He has offers from six schools, including Michigan, Arkansas, Arizona State and Utah, and is waiting on a few more. He doesn't have five favorites but he does know two schools he will likely visit officially ...
"Michigan and LSU are two schools I want to take official visits to," the 5-10, 235-pounder said. "I want to take all five visits and then I'll break it down after that. Both of those schools really interest me, though.
"I just always hear a lot of great things about Michigan from friends, coaches, even my own coaches. I just like the sound of their program."
Everything Fatu knows about U-M so far has been through word of mouth or reading up online. He has yet to visit Ann Arbor unofficially but doesn't think he'll have a chance to. That's why his official someday will be important.
"My mom and I will figure out my schedule in the fall and see when I can get up there," he said. "I really want to see Michigan and meet the coaches and players."
Though he is a coveted fullback prospect, Fatu hasn't gotten swept up in his own recruitment this year. He knows he needs to call coaches but he's been a little lax.
"I know Michigan wants me to call once or twice a week just to check in," Fatu said. "I'm just working and working out and sort of taking it easy for now."
Fatu ran for 1,005 yards and scored eight touchdowns on 158 carries (6.4 yards per rush) in 2010 while catching 14 balls for 168 yards and two touchdowns. Despite his success as Oak High School's tailback, he'll gladly transition to fullback at the next level.
"It's whatever, wherever, I just want to play college football," he said. "I can block but hopefully on that critical third down, they'll throw a dump pass to me or give it to me to run right up the gut."
