HUTTO, TX.-Sonny Dykes and his staff have made it well known that getting a top-flight quarterback is a big priority for their 2012 recruiting class.

They hope Ryan Higgins may be that guy and his decision may be coming very soon.

"I have two offers now," Higgins said. "The offer from Louisiana Tech was my first one and recently I just picked up an offer from the University of Memphis. "I was on campus in Ruston this week and I really liked everything that they showed me. The campus was really nice. I want to make a decision coming up soon but I won't do that without checking out Memphis and seeing what they have to offer as well."

The 6-1, 183-pound signal-caller out of Hutto High School is coming off of an impressive junior season that saw him throw for 2,250 yards on 126-of-219 passes for 20 touchdowns.

"I am just looking for the school with the best and strongest coaching staff that believes in the team and believes that we can win football games," Higgins said. "That is the biggest thing that I am looking for before I make my decision."

Having just gotten back from his visit to Louisiana Tech, Higgins said he was very impressed with the campus as well as the direction the coaching staff discussed they want the football program to take.

We had a whole schedule planned for us in terms of what we were going to do once me and my family got there," Higgins said. "I got to tour the campus and talked to all of the coaches and even some of the players. I even got the chance to talk to Colby Cameron and he and I talked about the offense and what they are trying to do at Tech; what they want to get accomplished.

"I would have to say that they (Tech) are definitely in better shape after this visit than before the trip. It was a definite plus. The school is a nice place it seems like and I like the direction that they are going on the football field. I can definitely see myself being a part of it should I choose to commit to Louisiana Tech."

When it comes to a decision date, according to Higgins it could be coming very soon.

"I would probably say that the closest date I could tell you is not next weekend but the next one (weekend of June 25th). That is when I am looking to have made my final decision and then I will announce my commitment."
