Gray looking to the summer
Houston (Texas) Westside wide receiver Deante Gray has listed Texas Tech as his leader over the past few months, but it seems as though an ever-increasingly crowded list of suitors has reduced the standing of the Red Raiders for the time being.
"I'm still hearing from Tech the most, along with Baylor, Colorado, and Utah," Gray said. "I've also been hearing a lot from Stanford lately too. There are a lot of different times that a school can gain or lose momentum so it's kind of like a roller coaster. I don't know think that I would say I really have a leader at all right now."
"I am still in pretty frequent contact with [Tech]. I talk with Coach Chad Scott all the time and we've got a great relationship. He's been recruiting me for a while now so we've gotten really comfortable with one another. I think he's a great guy."
The Red Raiders' lull in momentum could be due to the fact that they've yet to see Gray in person this spring.
"They haven't been down yet this spring, but I think they're trying to make a trip," he said. "Stanford has come by, which was kind of a surprise. They offered while they were here. Baylor has been by to see me recently as well."
The offer from Stanford is Gray's second from the Pac-10, giving him something to think about with regard to playing away from home.
"Location really isn't a factor for me. Texas is so big that I could play some places in state and still not really be close to home. I know Stanford is a great school and it's a very intriguing offer to have. I might take a visit out there to check it out and see what they have to offer."
The 5-foot-10, 180-pounder doesn't necessarily plan on making a decision this summer, but he does intend to have his options narrowed down by the time the fall gets here.
"I really don't have a timeline, but I'd say by the time the summer gets here I'll have a pretty good idea of where I want to go, or I'll at least have my list narrowed down to just a few," he said. "I'm going to make a decision whenever I find a situation that I feel completely comfortable with. I don't know when that will be specifically, but I hope to have a good idea of where I want to go by the summer."
Aside from Tech, Gray also holds offers from Arizona, Baylor, Colorado, Houston, Oregon State, Rice, Stanford, UTSA, Tulsa, and Utah.
