Moore impressed with PSU coaches
Hyattsville (Md.) DeMatha prospect Michael Moore may be listed as a defensive end on Rivals, but the Penn State coaching staff sees him playing somewhere different.
After speaking with Nittany Lion assistant coach Larry Johnson this weekend, the 6-foot-4, 255 pound Moore learned that Penn State would like to see him in the three-technique.
"They said they want me to play defensive tackle," said Moore. "At first I didn't like it, but I've been thinking more about all these positions and I just figured that if they want me to play d-tackle, then they want me to play great in that position. I like the fact that they want me to be the best I can be.
"I'm fine with whatever position I play."
During the trip, Moore had some other unexpected events, when good friend and teammate Brent Wilkerson gave his verbal commitment to the coaching staff.
"He committed towards the end of the day, when they split us up between d-lineman and tight ends," said Moore. "I guess he liked what he heard, because he committed. Im real proud of him and congratulations to what he did. I know that was his dream school since he was little, he was going to camps there since he was young, so I know that was a real big thing for him to get that offer then commit."
So how was the overall visit and what was his favorite thing about Penn State?
"It was a good visit, I got to see everything," said Moore. "What I really liked about it was the coaches there and their commitments to the players. How long they've been there, I know they aren't going anywhere because they've been there for so long, they're really committed to the program.
"I really like coach Johnson, I like him a lot. I got to talk to him individually, he was talking to me not only as a recruiter, but as a coach. He said that no matter where I go, I'll be a great player, so that was a really good thing to hear from him. He said that if I come there, he wants to make me the next big thing, so that was a real big thing to hear from him."
With Wilkerson on board, Moore admits that Penn State definitely moved up on his list.
"After seeing them and talking to the coaching staff, they definitely moved up my list. Brent committing made them go higher. I would have somebody there that I'm real close to, Brent is a good friend, a real good friend of mine, so it's nice to know that I'd be able to go somewhere where I'd have someone that I'm good friends with."
Moore has been all over the map lately, visiting multiple schools in Florida before making the drive to Happy Valley. So where is he headed next?
"Next week I'm going to Virginia, then the next week after that, I'll be in Clemson, South Carolina. I'll probably get back to Penn State in the summer time, check them out again then."
