Appleby looks back at his UConn visit
Quarterback Austin Appleby of North Canton (Oh.) Hoover missed the most recent junior day at UConn due to a snow storm in Ohio. However, Appleby was able to reschedule his visit and made his way to Storrs to check out a spring practice and spend the day on campus. He spoke with UConnReport.com last night about his visit, if an offer came his way and his upcoming schedule.
"My UConn visit went great," said an excited Appleby, who is 6-foot-5 and 228 pounds.
First, Appleby gave a breakdown of his time at UConn.
"We arrived late Friday night and met Coach Moorhead and the rest of the coaching staff at 8:30 a.m. on Saturday morning," said Appleby. "We took a tour, sat in meetings and then watched the entire practice. After practice I met with Coach Moorhead. We broke down film and he explained their offensive system. It's very similar to what we run at Hoover so I believe I passed with flying colors. Coach Pasqualoni sat in on this meeting also."
Appleby shared his thoughts regarding the spring practice.
"The practice was extremely organized and high tempo," said Appleby. "It was exciting to watch and the players were getting after it. The players all seemed to be very motivated to give their best on every play. In my opinion, this is a compliment to the coaches."
The coaching staff also left a favorable impression on Appleby.
"I like what I see from their coaching staff," he said. "They are all very personable, very direct and very passionate about what they are doing."
Aside from the football aspect of the visit, Appleby also had a chance to check out the rest of the campus too.
"The entire campus impressed me," he said. "The layout is very nice. It seemed to be very easy to get around, as we walked around from building to building. The Business School is impressive and since this is my intended major, this is important."
Appleby was asked about the possibility of an offer and what his current thoughts are regarding UConn.
"I think UConn is a great place and I can definitely see myself playing there," said Appleby. "UConn did not offer me. They did say that they're interested in me and want to continue to get to know each other. They want to see me throw and run in person."
Appleby, who already holds offers from Temple, Kent State and Toledo, will continue his hectic visit schedule this spring. He will visit Florida this weekend for a spring practice, then in April he has scheduled visits to Michigan, Louisville, Pittsburgh, Syracuse and West Virginia.
UConnReport.com will continue to stay in touch with Appleby to see how UConn's pursuit of him progresses.
