Tech leads for Gray after junior day
Houston (Texas) Westside wide receiver Deante' Gray made the trip to Lubbock over the weekend to attend Texas Tech's junior day. The 2012 standout had the Red Raiders high on his list before the trip, but it seems that the visit elevated Tech's standing even more.
"It went really well. It was great, actually," Gray said. "We toured all of the facilities and I got to see the stadium, things like that. Everything was really nice and I had a great time. I wasn't sure what to expect before coming up, but it turned out to be a great visit."
Gray had the opportunity to spend some one-on-one time with Sonny Cumbie and Tommy Tuberville during his stay. Up to this point he's spent the majority of his time in contact with assistant coach Chad Scott.
"It was really cool to get to talk with Coach Tuberville. He's one of the great coaches out there, so I though that was awesome getting to talk with him," he said. "Coach Scott and I have a great relationship too. I try to call him on a weekly basis and see what's up. He's been straight with me so far and he's a fun guy to be around. I'd say our relationship has been great so far."
The 5-foot-10, 180-pounder has no other junior days scheduled moving forward. Aside from Tech, he said he's hearing the most from Colorado, Baylor, and Texas A&M. Indications are that his trip to West Texas had a positive effect on the Red Raiders chances.
"I liked it all really. Their facilities and their stadium were really nice. I liked the campus and what I got to see of the city was great too," he said. "The coaching staff and players seem to all be like family. That's something that is important to me so I really liked seeing that."
"It changed the way I was thinking about them honestly. It gave me a chance to take a better look at their program and I really liked what I got to see. Texas Tech is definitely my favorite as of now."
In addition to Tech, Gray currently holds offers from Baylor, Colorado, UTSA, and Tulsa.
