Shepard's Offer Was on His Own Merit
Through the years of Bob Stoops' tenure there have been many Sooners recruits with serious ties to the football program. Almost undoubtedly none have deeper or more heartfelt connection than Oklahoma City Heritage Hall athlete Sterling Shepard. The 5-foot-11, 175-pound prospect is the son of a former Sooner standout as well as nephew to two other former Sooner players.
And while Shepard's scholarship offer from Oklahoma was big news late last week the reality that the Sooners had to clarifying something before offering him was probably mot noteworthy.
"Actually I called coach (Jackie) Shipp and he was letting me know that they weren't offering me because of my dad and he said that they offer me because they sat down and observed my tape and decided 'hey, let's offer him'," Shepard said. "They didn't have my latest tape so I gave them the new one and then they said after the first two minutes they said 'let's offer him'."
