Big Three Offers for Lambert
Jesup (GA) Wayne County quarterback Greyson Lambert projects as one of the top pro-style quarterbacks in the Southeast in the 2012 cycle and has the early offers to prove it.
"I have three offers right now: Georgia, Alabama, and Clemson," Lambert said. "During the season, teams from all over would send letters to my school, but since we've been out for the holidays, I've been getting a lot more mail at home. Right now those three would be my favorites, since they've offered, but I like everyone in the SEC and ACC. Anywhere that's close to home."
Lambert likes all three schools for similar reasons.
"With the three schools that have offered, I like their coaching staffs. They all have the kind of pro-style offense that I'm looking for. I definitely like all the coaches that I speak with. They're all down to earth and "get the job done" kind of people.
"I talk with the offensive coordinators- Coach (Jim) McElwain, Coach (Billy) Napier, and Coach (Mike) Bobo. Kirby Smart is my recruiter for Alabama, as is Coach (Tony) Ball for Georgia, and Coach Jeff Scott for Clemson. I speak with the head coaches for each school a good bit, as well."
In addition to the aforementioned pro-style offense, Lambert has a couple of specific traits he's looking for in a school.
"I'm looking for player development," he said. "With player development, for example, you can tell that Georgia is able to put out great talent at the quarterback position, with Matthew Stafford going first in the draft a few years ago. I'm also looking at academics, players that play at the school, and how well I'll fit in the system. I don't have a timetable. I really don't know what I want yet."
In the coming month, Lambert plans on hitting the road and making a few visits, along with participating in a combine and all-star game.
"I've been invited to a few bowl practices," Lambert said. "We haven't made any sure plans yet. We're looking around at all the possibilities and are thinking about going to some practices. We've been talking about maybe going to watch Alabama, South Carolina, and Georgia practice. I'm going to be in Orlando on January 2 for the Under Armour Combine. January 4-8, I'm going to be with the Georgia Junior Bowl. The game is on the 8th in Atlanta in the Georgia Dome. I've also been invited to Georgia's junior day on January 28 or 29. So that's the only one I'm going to right now. I'm sure there will be some other visits, but I don't have any others nailed down yet."
The busy schedule is nothing new for Lambert. The South Georgia signal caller took in eight college football games throughout the Southeast this season.
"I went to two Clemson games- the North Texas game and North Carolina State game," said Lambert. "I went to two Georgia games- the Arkansas game and the Georgia Tech game. I went to three Alabama games- against Penn State, Florida, and Auburn. I also went to the Florida-LSU game. All of the environments were great. They were all very loud, with the fans jumping up and down. You really couldn't ask for more."
Lambert was also busy on the gridiron this season, helping Wayne County spearhead a steady improvement.
"We were 5-5 this year," Lambert said. "I think that's the best record we've had in the last six or seven years. We were 1-9 for three consecutive years and then went 3-7 last year. I threw for 20 touchdown passes and 1,991 passing yards. You could say it was a good season, but it is something we need to continue to build on for next season."
